Tourists died in avalanche in Altai
A tourist group of nine people fell under an avalanche on the South Chui ridge in the Altai Republic, in the result of which seven of them died, two survived, according to Tass.ru.
The two survivors reached the village of Kosh-Agach today. They could not call anyone about the accident, as there was no connection in the mountains. At 14:00 a helicopter with rescuers from Gorno-Altaisk flew to the scene to carry out search operations and extract tourists from under the avalanche, the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the region said.
The emergency services, in turn, reported that before going on the route, the group registered with the Emergencies Ministry unit.
“A group of nine people arrived in Altai from Novosibirsk. Before going on the route, they were registered,” the agency’s source said.
As a law enforcement source informed TASS, Nikolai Simonov, head of the tourist club of the Novosibirsk State University, is among those killed.
