U.S. President-elect Joseph Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris were named the Person of the Year by the American magazine Time. This was announced during a special broadcast on NBC, reports.

According to Time's editors, Biden was named the 46th President of the United States in a historic and unprecedented election. The magazine credits the country's former vice president with winning the largest number of votes in U.S. history in the November presidential election, breaking the record of the 44th President Barack Obama.

The Democratic pair beat three other finalists in the shortlist for this title: frontline healthcare workers and Dr Anthony Fauci, the racial justice movement, and President Donald Trump, who lost the White House race.
