Heavy rains kill 33 people in Central China
As of 04:00 Thursday, the death toll from heavy rains in Henan province (Central China) increased to 33, eight more people are reported missing, Kazpravda.kz reports citing Xinhua.
The rains that hit the province have affected an estimated 3 million people in total, local officials said.
A total of 376,000 local residents have been evacuated to safe locations, the provincial emergency management department said.
As a result of the natural disaster, more than 215,200 hectares of agricultural crops were affected. The direct economic loss was approximately RMB 1.22 billion (about US $ 188.6 million).
