Foreigners will be fingerprinted to enter Russia

The Russian Interior Ministry has developed a concept for a new law on migrants, which suggests that foreigners will be required to be fingerprinted to enter Russia, reported.

According to the project, for foreigners wishing to enter the territory of Russia, fingerprinting and photographing will be mandatory. Identification of foreign citizens will be carried out in order to prevent a terrorist threat and for a more thorough migration control. Foreigners will be fingerprinted directly at the diplomatic missions and consular offices of Russia.

At the same time, the ministry noted, this procedure may apply only to guests from certain states.

Previously, the Russian authorities allowed foreigners who own real estate in the country to host and register newcomers at their homes.

Now a home owner who does not have a Russian passport is obliged to notify the migration registration authority about the settling of a foreign citizen within seven working days.
