Kidney disease doubles the risk of death from coronavirus infection. This conclusion was made by scientists from Imperial College London, the study was published in the journal Anesthesia, Kazpravda.kz reports with reference to Ria.ru.
Experts analyzed the data of 372 patients with COVID-19 hospitalized in intensive care units of four hospitals in London and Birmingham between March 10 and July 23.
Thus, 216 patients had kidney problems, chronic or caused by infection, 107 of them died (about 50%). At the same time, 32 patients (21%) died from among the remaining 156 patients without any kidney pathologies.
The researchers suggested that this could be due to the effects of the virus on the body as a whole, "cross-linking" between the lungs and kidneys, and the use of toxic agents in treating the virus.
