EU acknowledged Taliban victory in Afghanistan
The European Union acknowledged the victory of the Taliban movement, which seized power in Afghanistan, and expressed its readiness to start a dialogue with the Taliban in order to support the people. This was stated by the head of EU diplomacy Josep Borrell following an emergency video conference of the EU foreign ministers, 24.kz reports.
“The Taliban have won the war. So we will have to talk with them, in order to engage in a dialogue as soon as necessary to prevent a humanitarian and a potential migratory disaster but also a humanitarian crisis,” he told a news conference after an online extraordinary meeting of the EU foreign ministers. “It is not a matter of official recognition, it is a matter of dealing with them.”
The EU will continue to evacuate its citizens from Afghanistan, as well as local residents who have worked with various EU institutions.
