Yermek Kenesov, a student of the 10th grade of Nazarbayev Intellectual School in Atyrau, in the process of studying polymer chemistry, invented a new type of building material – plast-brick, Inform.kz reports.
"I found out that according to the UN Committee for Nature Protection, plastic waste causes the death of 1 million birds and about 100 thousand marine mammals, including a huge number of fish, every year. Plastic bags become part of the Great Pacific garbage patch - a vortex of man-made debris in the Pacific," says Yermek.
The young inventor believes that one of the solutions to this problem is recycling of plastic waste. He has already come up with plast-brick, created on the basis of fine gravel, sand and plastic waste. First, he explored the physicochemical properties of the additive and condensation polymer to create an economical building material, analyzed a lot of information on it. Then he developed a hydraulic device made of hard cardboard for grinding plastic. The final stage was the process of creating a plast brick itself and testing of its physical characteristics. As the test showed, strength, moisture absorption and frost resistance correspond to the same characteristics of ordinary bricks.
Yermek is thinking of full-scale production of such brick, made a business plan with calculation of the costs, necessary investments and profits:
"Recycling of plastic waste is one of the best solutions to the problem of overabundance of plastic products," said Yermek Kenesov.
