Sport competitions for children with special needs started in Astana

In the sports complex of the Nazarbayev University, a festive opening of the Spartakiad "Zhuldyzai," competitions for children with special educational needs took place, reports.

The Spartakiad is held on the initiative of the BI-ZHoldyzai Foundation since 2016 with support of Nur Otan Party, Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Nazarbayev University, sports federations, the Paralympic Committee and the Astana City Akimat.

The competitions will be in 5 sports: mini-football, goalball, track and field, swimming, table tennis and national games: asyk atu and bes tas. Qualifying competitions in the regions were held in 16 cities of Kazakhstan, among about 3,000 children and adolescents studying in 97 specialized boarding schools in the country, as well as those who receive education at home under the supervision of teachers from general education schools. For the finals 411 young athletes were selected. Nur Otan party chairman Maulen Ashimbayev, who welcomed the competitions’ participants, said that the attitude of the state to people with special needs is a gauge of its development level.

The competitions will last two days. One of the highlights on the opening day of the competition was a warm-up, which was conducted by a well-known TV personality and public figure Aruzhan Sain. In addition a master class for coaches in the game "Bocha" for wheelchair users was held.
