Putintseva beat 15th world racket and advanced to US Open quarterfinals
Kazakhstan tennis player Yulia Putintseva reached the US Open quarterfinals, which is being held in New York, Vesti.kz reports.
Putintseva, seeded 23rd in the tournament, in the fourth round met with Croatian Petra Martic, who received the eighth number of the tournament. The Kazakhstani won the first set 6: 3, and was leading 5: 0. She lost the second - 2: 6, but in the third she led with 4: 0 and brought it to victory - 6: 4. The play lasted two hours and 30 minutes.
In the WTA rankings, the 25-year-old Putintseva is 35th, and 29-year-old Martich is the 15th world racket. For reaching the semifinals, Putintseva will play with American Jennifer Brady, who is the 41st racket, and is seeded 28th in the tournament.
