Kazakhstan will apply for hosting hockey World Cup-2026

Kazakhstan Hockey Federation intends to apply for hosting the hockey World Cup 2026 at the next in-person congress of the International Hockey Federation (IIHF). This was announced by TASS General Director of the Federation Gleb Karataev.
Earlier on Sunday, Sport.ch portal, citing the president of the German Hockey Federation and member of the IIHF council, Franz Reindl, said that Kazakhstan, the UK and Norway were interested in hosting the tournament. The main contender for the tournament, in his opinion, is Switzerland.
According to the director general, if the application of Switzerland wins, Kazakhstan will apply for hosting the competition for next year.
The next in-person IIHF congress is scheduled for 2021, and a virtual congress will be held on June 22. The World Championship - 2021 is due to take place in Minsk and Riga, in 2022 - in Helsinki and Tampere (Finland), in 2023 - in St. Petersburg, in 2024 - in Czech Prague and Ostrava, in 2025 - in Sweden and Denmark (no cities defined yet).
