Kazakhstan’s Nursultan Zhanabaev has lost minor WBA Inter-Continental, WBO Oriental and IBF Australasian welterweight titles, Vesti.kz reports.
In the co-main event of the boxing evening in Belarusian Minsk, Zhanabaev confronted the Frenchman Sandy Messaoud, who had his first fight outside his home country. The fight was designed for 10 rounds, but did not last the entire distance.
In the second round, Zhanabaev was knocked down, and in the seventh the referee stopped the fight due to Kazakhstani’s bad wound. As a result, the winner was determined by a split decision - Messaoud won.
For 27-year-old Zhanabaev, this defeat was the first in his career after eight wins (five by knockout), and 34-year-old Messaoud now has 14 wins (one by knockout) with six defeats.
Zhanabaev won his titles in 2019. The Kazakhstani performed for the first time in Belarus - he made his debut in 2016 in China, and then fought at home, in Russia and Australia.
Kazakhstani, Aidos Erbosynuly successfully defended the minor titles of WBO Global, WBC Asia and WBA International in the second middle weight.
In the main event of the boxing evening in Minsk, Erbosynuly, following the results of ten rounds, by unanimous decision of the judges defeated the boxer from Germany, Nuhu Lawal - 100-88, 100-88 and 100-87. In the second and third three minutes, Lawal was knocked down.
For the 28-year-old Erbosynuly, this victory was the 14th (10 by KO) in 14 fights, and the 38-year-old Lawal suffered the seventh defeat - the Nigerian native also had 27 wins (15 by KO). The Kazakhstani played for the first time in Belarus - he made his debut in 2015 in Ukraine, and then fought at home, in the USA, Australia and Russia.
Another Kazakhstani, Nursultan Amanzholov, won the fight with Bosnian Drajan Jananin by technical knockout. The heavyweight bout was designed for 6 rounds, but ended after the second three minutes – the Bosnian was knocked down and removed from the fight.
For 27-year-old Amanzholov, this victory was the third (two by knockout) in three fights. He made his professional debut last July and had two fights in Almaty.
