DPRK will not participate in the Tokyo Olympics
The DPRK will not take part in the Tokyo Olympics this summer to protect its athletes from coronavirus infection. This was reported on Tuesday by the South Korean agency Yonhap, Tass.ru reports.
According to it, this decision was made at a meeting of the National Olympic Committee of the DPRK, held in Pyongyang on March 25.
The session of the DPRK NOC was held on March 25 in the format of a video conference. The meeting participants discussed "practical issues related to public sports events."
In their speeches, NOC Chairman Kim Ir Guk, who also holds the post of Minister of Sports, and other participants spoke about the need to "strengthen cooperation with international sports organizations".
The Tokyo Olympics were supposed to take place from July 24 to August 9, 2020. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the competitions were postponed for a year and will be held from July 23 to August 8, 2021.
