Alexei Poltoranin’s whereabouts unknown to Kazakhstan MFA

The whereabouts of Kazakhstan skier Alexei Poltoranin, accused of doping at the World Championships in Austria, are unknown, correspondent quotes the RK Foreign Ministry’s spokesman , Aibek Smadiyarov, as saying at a briefing at the Foreign Office.

"On February 28 evening, Alexei Poltoranin flew through Munich in the direction of Moscow. He refused to talk with our diplomats. However, our consul, having learned of this incident, immediately went to the city where he was arrested. Today, we don’t know about his whereabouts, "said Smadiyarov.

“To our knowledge, the WADA police detained him. It was in the lobby of the hotel that our consul was waiting for him, but Alexey didn’t want to meet and went to Munich”, said Smadiyarov.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman also added that the Kazakh consul in Munich escorted him to the airport.

“They didn’t meet him in Moscow. This is no longer the responsibility of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. After his release, he can move anywhere,” the spokesman concluded.
