Activities of "Continental Team Astana" suspended - Vinokurov

Gen manager of Astana Pro Team wonders why young racers use banned products.
Activities of continental cycling team “Astana” are indefinitely suspended, general manager of the team Alexander Vinokourov stated, reports with reference to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The reason is doping scandal in the team. Two days ago, another team member - Arthur Fedoseyev tested positive in the doping test. That makes three riders of the "Astana" team, whose doping test proved positive, including Victor Okishev and Ilya Davydenok.

In addition, in October, doping was detected in the blood of two riders in the "Astana" World Tour- brothers Maxim and Valentin Iglinskiy. In this connection, the UCI requested the license commission to conduct a test of the “Astana” team.

"We have given the required explanations," - Vinokourov said.

The fifth positive doping test resulted in team reshuffles. Kairat Kelimbetov resigned as Kazakhstan Cycling Federation president.

Vinokourov, who is currently with the team on training in Italy, said that the activities of the continental team "Astana" were suspended for an indefinite period.

"Young riders have gone mad. They do not understand that doping is no longer acceptable in cycling. But it is also an appeal to our federation. As we have repeatedly asked, Cycling Federation of Kazakhstan needs to conduct more inspections and penalize more for doping offenses. People need to understand it is a different reality, and "Astana" (Astana Pro Team – author’s note) has nothing to do with the continental team. The only thing they have in common is the uniform and name, "- he said.

Recall, Valentin Iglinskiy with positive doping test, was disqualified for four years by the Anti-Doping Commission of Kazakhstan cycling federation.

In October, the Cycling Federation of Kazakhstan signed a MoC with the National Anti-Doping Centre. Kazakhstan plans to introduce advanced anti-doping system in 2015.
