Mayor of Nur-Sultan Altai Kulginov spoke about plans for development of tourism potential of the capital, Kazpravda.kz reports citing the official website of the city administration.
“The head of state, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, during a trip to the Zhezkazgan-Ulytau region, noted that it is necessary to pay special attention to tourism as the main industry of our economy. Over the past 10 years, the number of tourists visiting our city and the number of hotels have almost doubled. This year, Nur-Sultan entered the ranking of 200 global tourist destinations of Master Card for the first time, which makes us happy. For further development of this type of industry, at the instruction of the Head of State, it is planned to open an international tourism university," Kulginov said at the opening of the PATA Travel Mart international tourism exhibition in the capital.
In his speech, the mayor of the capital also emphasized that three main directions of development of the tourism industry in the capital were defined.
"The first is the event tourism. Recently, the city hosted the world ice hockey championship, the first Central Asian festival Comic Con 2019, IRON MAN 70.3, the world wrestling championship. The second direction is the medical tourism. Six out of seven organizations, accredited by JCI, are in the capital. The third direction is the capital - the congress and exhibition center of Eurasia. More than 70 events are held annually, almost a quarter of them are business events, "Kulginov said.
"Kazakhstan is the ninth largest country in the world. It has a unique nature; all the conditions for creating and running a business are created. The main purpose of such meetings is to promote domestic and foreign tour operators, strengthen cooperation," said Chris Bottrill, chairman of the RATA association.
It should be noted that the capital won the right to host the international tourism exhibition PATA Travel Mart in competition with the largest cities in Asia. Over the past 68 years, the event is being held for the first time outside the Asia-Pacific region. More than a thousand representatives of the tourism industry from 60 countries take part in the exhibition.
