Snow leopard first spotted in Altyn-Emel National Park

A snow leopard has been spotted for the first time in the Altyn-Emel National Park in Almaty region, refers to the Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources, Magzum Mirzagaliyev, saying this on Twitter.

"I would like to share good news: for the first time a snow leopard was seen in Altyn-Emel National Park this night. The animal hit the camera lens. Snow leopard was also spotted in spring in Sairam-Ugam National Park," the minister wrote.

The appearance of the snow leopard is always an event and a reason to think about how to preserve this rare species.

According to Mirzagaliyev, the endangered snow leopard population is no more than 4,000 individuals worldwide, and about 130 in Kazakhstan. 294 camera traps have been installed on the territory of 13 protected zones of Kazakhstan.
