Nursultan Nazarbayev visited archaeological site "Old settlement Shymkent"
The First President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, visited the monument of historical and cultural heritage "Old settlement Shymkent" (Citadel), which is one of the oldest historical places in the country. This was reported by the press service of Elbasy, Kazpravda.kz reports.
During the visit, Nursultan Nazarbayev got acquainted with the results of archaeological work and plans for further development of the cultural complex.
According to the information provided, in 2021, the construction of a three-level medieval museum and an amphitheater with 500 seats will begin on the territory of the complex.
In addition, within the framework of the visit to the site, akim of the city Murat Aytenov spoke about the tourism potential of Shymkent and the prospects for its development.
"Old settlement Shymkent" (Citadel) is an archaeological site of the Republic of Kazakhstan included in the State list of historical and cultural monuments of local significance.
In total, three stratigraphic excavations were laid at the site. The thickness of the cultural strata of the settlement was in total 14 meters. In the lowest layer of the settlement, a complex of ceramics was collected, which dates from the end of the 3rd century BC. - the beginning of the II century BC, which is typical for the urbanized settlements of Sogda.
