Lives of thousands of families and specific people are behind each adopted law - Ashimbaev
Maulen Ashimbaev, Senate chairman, shared his opinion on the work of the current legislative branch. He timed this topic to the ongoing election of the Senate deputies, Kazpravda.kz reports.
"Today in Kazakhstan, election of the Senate deputies is held. According to the current legislation, 17 senators, one from each region, the capital and cities of republican status, will be elected as electors – by maslikhats deputies. Partial renewal of the Senate takes place every three years. 15 of the Senate deputies are appointed by the President," Ashimbaev wrote on Facebook.
He noted that in the current legislative power system, the Senate ensures representation in the Parliament of all regions of the country, the continuity of legislative policy when renewing the composition of the Majilis and in consideration of bills.
According to Ashimbayev, representing the interests of the regions in the Senate is especially important given the proportional system of elections to the Majilis, whose deputies are elected through party lists on a single nationwide constituency, as well as by the Assembly of Kazakhstan People.
He added that at the current development stage of Kazakhstan, the key role of the Senate deputies is to legislatively support the modernization agenda of the President, aimed at improving the quality of population’s life and ensuring inclusive economic growth.
"One of the key tasks also remains to improve the legal framework for combating the coronavirus pandemic and its consequences. I believe that the senators elected today, will actively work to fulfill these strategic tasks," Ashimbayev summed up.
