The minister of defense, Nurlan Yermekbayev, by his order appointed the composition of the commission to inspect all ammunition depots in the Armed Forces under the leadership of the head of the Main Inspectorate of the Ministry of Defense, Lieutenant General Amir Khalikov, Kazpravda.kz reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The decision was made after the events in the Zhambyl region, where the Minister of Defense from the first hours on the spot personally organized work to eliminate the consequences of the fire, analyzed the state of the storage base and the circumstances of the incident.
As Lieutenant General Nurlan Yermekbayev noted in the instructions at the apparatus meeting, after the fire in Arys, the Ministry of Defense took comprehensive measures to prevent such incidents: a Comprehensive Plan for improvement of storage facilities is being implemented, for the first time in 30 years, a complete inventory of the available ammunition is being carried out, the construction of two new storage bases has been organized.
"Despite the measures taken, apparently, not all instructions of the minister were carried out properly, which could have caused the incident in the Zhambyl region. The investigation should establish the true reasons and the culprits," the minister emphasized.
Taking into account the fact that the ammunition storage facilities are secure, the commission was instructed to involve independent and qualified experts, including veterans of the Armed Forces, as consultants in the work of the commission.
The commission will give an objective assessment of the state of ammunition storage conditions, help identify the existing shortcomings and organize work to eliminate them, the Defense Ministry concluded.
