In Kazakhstan, 628 people died from pneumonia in June this year, Kazpravda.kz correspondent quotes the Chief State Sanitary Doctor of Kazakhstan, Aizhan Esmagambetova, as saying during an online briefing in the Central Communications Service.
“The mortality from pneumonia in the six months of 2019 and 2020 has not changed much. In 6 months of 2019 there were 1,780 cases, whereas in the six months of 2020 - 1,772. It is noted that in June this year, the mortality from pneumonia increased to make 628 cases. In comparison with the last six months of last year, the incidence of pneumonia went 55% up and in June this year there was a 4-fold rise,” Esmagambetova said.
She also noted that in the examination of patients with diagnosed pneumonia, the result of the PCR test was negative, which may happen. However, in order for patients to receive timely treatment, taking into account such statistics, the clinical protocol has been amended. It introduced the concept of a probable case of coronavirus infection and regardless of the presence of a negative PCR test, patients receive antiviral treatment as in coronavirus case, she added.
According to her, in order to find out the cause of the growth of pneumonia and most importantly - what pathogens cause it, studies are being conducted on the basis of the reference laboratory of the National Center for Public Health. The results of these studies will determine the nature of pneumonia, the growth of which is currently observed in Kazakhstan.
Earlier, the Minister of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Alexei Tsoi, said that in June 2020, 32,724 cases of pneumonia were recorded. Also, 44,075 patients with coronavirus infection were identified in the country.
