The Head of State, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov, who is in Nur-Sultan on a working visit, Kazpravda.kz reports with reference to the press service of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
"Kazakhstan and Russia are allies, strategic partners. The agenda of our cooperation is very rich and requires, of course, a lot of work in terms of implementing the agreements reached. Therefore, I believe that both during your visit and during further contacts at the level of heads of ministries, and, of course, at the highest level we will achieve our goals. During a conversation with Vladimir Putin on March 23, we talked about the importance of holding an interregional meeting. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, it was postponed. We agreed that it should be held in any format, preferably in person, but if this is not possible, then it is imperative to hold this meeting in the videoconference mode, since it is of great importance," the Head of State said.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed gratitude to President Vladimir Putin for his support in the issue of additional supplies of vaccines to Kazakhstan.
“We are grateful to the Russian leadership, the President of the Russian Federation for assistance and joint efforts in the fight against the pandemic. In the same conversation on March 23, I raised the issue of the supply of additional 4 million doses of vaccine by Russian side. Prior to that, we agreed on joint production of the vaccine at the Karaganda plant. Production is already established there. By the way, not so long ago I was vaccinated with Sputnik V of Kazakhstan production. Recently I held a meeting with the Government, gave instructions to accelerate vaccination of the population and ensure the mass vaccination. This task is associated, firstly, with the supply of the proper amount of vaccine to the market. We vaccinate, of course, free of charge. And, secondly, it is very important to encourage our citizens to vaccinate, because not everyone now understands the importance of this action. I constantly say that there is no other way out, you need to get vaccinated," the President said.
In turn, Sergey Lavrov conveyed warm greetings from President Vladimir Putin and said that the Russian side will resolve issues with the supply of vaccines.
During the meeting, key aspects of bilateral cooperation were discussed, including the trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres, further interaction in the space industry.
"Next month, it is planned to organize a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in the videoconference mode. This is also an important milestone, an important stage in organizing our common efforts to continue cooperation in the post-coronavirus era. And, as you mentioned, we aim to hold the 17th interregional forum with the participation of presidents in one format or another, depending on the epidemiological situation. We have very good contacts, which did not stop even during the pandemic; the prime ministers met twice, the deputy prime ministers regularly communicate on trade issues. We celebrate the 60th anniversary of Gagarin's flight, this is our joint contribution to the peaceful exploration of space; work at Baikonur is in full swing to develop our joint further cooperation and to develop Kazakhstan's space potential," said Sergey Lavrov.
