During the talks, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted that Kazakhstan and the Republic of Korea are reliable and strategic partners. "Cultural and trade ties between the two nations have been developing for many centuries since the Great Silk Road. The proximity of the history of our peoples is confirmed by the fact that Kazakh and Korean languages belong to the same Ural-Altaic language family, "said the President of Kazakhstan.
He highlighted the contribution of the First President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev to the establishment and strengthening of Kazakhstan-South Korean relations.
“He laid a solid foundation for friendship and cooperation between our countries and peoples,” Tokayev said.
He emphasized that over the years of Kazakhstan Independence, the relations between the two countries reached a qualitatively new cooperation plane in practically all the areas and praised the work of the Intergovernmental Commission and of the Kazakh-South Korean Business Council.
"South Korea is one of the ten priority countries for Kazakhstan in terms of the development of trade-investment and technology cooperation. It is gratifying to note the sustainable growth in the commodity turnover. Last year, it reached a record $ 4 billion and more than doubled the 2017 figure. Development of our investment cooperation has been sustainable. The inflow of direct investments from Korea to Kazakhstan alone amounted to about $ 7 billion. South Korean business is working successfully in the food, mining and processing, automobile and other sectors of our economy, "- said the President of Kazakhstan.
Noting the importance of the Korean diaspora’s input in the development of culture-humanitarian ties between the two countries, the Head of State indicated that it is among the largest ethnic groups in Kazakhstan and assured that the Government would continue to create conditions for further development of the culture of Koreans living in our country.
In turn, the President of the Republic of Korea, praising the Development Strategy Kazakhstan-2050, stressed that among the countries of Central Asia, Kazakhstan is developing at the highest rates, that it supports the peace process on the Korean Peninsula. Kazakhstan is a country that has achieved economic progress after voluntarily giving up nuclear weapons. Moon Jae-in called it a very important example for the Korean Peninsula.
