President announced amnesty in 2021 timed to 30th anniversary of Independence of Kazakhstan

In 2021, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan's Independence, an amnesty will be held for those brought to criminal responsibility. This was announced by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev during an expanded meeting of the board of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Kazpravda.kz reports.
In his speech, the President announced that next year, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Independence of Kazakhstan, in accordance with the law, an amnesty will be held for those prosecuted for crimes that do not pose a serious threat to the security of citizens and the state as a whole.
The President also spoke about the need to digitalize police activities, strengthen the fight against illegal drug trafficking, and improve the state of the domestic penitentiary system.
