Kassym-Jomart Tokayev: Kanat Islam is pride of Kazakhstan
President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev wished good luck to boxer Kanat Islam, Kazpravda.kz reports.
"Kanat Islam is our pride. He represents Kazakhstan in the international arena deservingly. I wished him good luck in the upcoming fights," President wrote on Instagram.
In April, Kazakhstan's first middleweight boxer Kanat Islam (25-0, 20 KOs) announced return to the ring.
34-year-old Islam has been out of the ring since September 2017, when in the ninth round he knocked out Canadian Brandon Cook (20-2, 13 KOs) in Astana. This victory helped him defend the secondary titles of WBA Inter-Continental and WBO-NABO, which he eventually lost.
In 2018, Kanat Islam went to the United States, where he signed a contract with the famous manager Egis Klimas. The boxer planned to fight in America in June, but suffered a severe leg injury.
