Astana to host Conference on Nuclear Disarmament
Pugwash movement, founded in 1957, brings together scientists, political and public figures who advocate peace, disarmament, security and scientific cooperation on global scale.

Kazakhstan Senate chairman Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev received Secretary General of the Pugwash movement of scientists, Paolo Cotta-Ramusino. The parties discussed holding of Pugwash Conference in Kazakhstan this year, Kazpravda.kz reports with reference to the RK Senate’s press service.
"Pugwash Movement, founded in 1957, brings together scientists, politicians and public figures, who stand for peace, disarmament, security and scientific cooperation in the global scale. The movement played an important role in the development and adoption of key multilateral agreements in the field of disarmament and security: Treaty Banning nuclear weapon tests in the atmosphere, in outer space and under water, the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of nuclear weapons, Anti-Ballistic missile Treaty, the Convention on banning biological and chemical weapons, the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe and others. In 1995, the organization was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize," the press service writes.
According to Tokayev, Kazakhstan shares the ideas and values of the Pugwash movement, appreciates the role of the movement in the development and adoption of the international agreements in disarmament and security.
As the Senate speaker said, Kazakhstan intends to organize this important event at a high level.
