Astana process: Foreign Ministry announced date of 16th talks on Syria

On July 7-8, 2021, the next 16th International High-Level Meeting on Syria within the Astana Process will be held in Nur-Sultan, Kazpravda.kz reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
It is planned to involve delegations of the guarantor countries - Iran, Russia and Turkey, the Government of Syria and the Syrian armed opposition.
High representatives of the UN, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq will participate as observers.
The agenda will include the following issues: the situation "on the ground" in Syria, including the socio-economic and sanitary-epidemiological; international humanitarian assistance to Syria; prospects for resumption of the work of the Syrian Constitutional Committee in Geneva; confidence-building measures, including the exchange of prisoners, the release of hostages and the search for missing persons.
On the first day of negotiations, bilateral and trilateral consultations of the guarantor countries, negotiations with the Syrian parties, contacts with delegations of the observer parties are expected. The second day - continuation of consultations and the Plenary session.
In addition, on the sidelines of the 16th meeting in the Astana format, it is planned to hold the next meeting of the Working Group on Forcibly Detained Persons with the participation of the guarantor countries and UN and ICRC experts.
