Phosphorus containers are on fire at Arys station
Two containers with yellow phosphorus caught fire at the Arys railway station, Kazpravda.kz reports.
"Today, at about 5.30 pm, two containers with phosphorus caught fire, en route from Zhambyl region to Russia. All the emergency forces of the region and the district have been pooled to extinguish this kind of fire. As known, yellow phosphorus burns for a very long time, emitting strong smoke. For the health safety of the nearby area residents in case that wind changes direction, the local akimat is carrying out evacuation, "said Saken Kalkamanov, deputy akim of Turkestan region.
All evacuees will be provided with hot meals and an overnight stay in one of the city's schools.
The situation is under control, he said.
