Foreign Ministry inquiring if Kazakhstanis were injured in Madrid explosion
The Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan reported that they are currently inquiring whether there are Kazakhstan nationals among the casualties and injured in the explosion in Madrid, Kazpravda.kz reports.
"On January 20, at about 15:00 local time (20:00 Nur-Sultan time) an explosion happened in Madrid, in a building on Toledo street. The injured and casualties are reported. Consul of Kazakhstan in Madrid is in contact with the local authorities to find out if there are Kazakhstan nationals among the casualties and injured, "the Foreign Ministry informed.
Earlier it was reported that in the center of Madrid there was a large explosion in one of the buildings. According to El Pais newspaper, a church parish is located in the five-story building where the explosion took place. The explosion severely damaged the upper floors of the building. The explosion went off at the time when workers were checking the gas pipeline in the building, the newspaper said.
The police cordoned off the area around the building. On the cordoned off territory, according to El Mundo, there is a nursing home and a school. Firefighters are working on site. People are being evacuated.
