Rosselkhoznadzor will ban US poultry meat transit to Kazakhstan
Experts of Rosselkhoznadzor are to hold consultations with Kazakhstan colleagues to discuss the situation.
Rosselkhoznadzor (Russian Federal Veterinary and Phytosanitary Monitoring Service) plans to ban the transit of US poultry meat to Kazakhstan through the territory of Russia, Kazpravda.kz correspondent reports.
The head of Rosselkhoznadzor Sergei Dankvert told the Interfax that they are considering closing the transit of US poultry to Kazakhstan, as part of this meat “stays” on their territory on its way to the destination.
In this way, according to him, the food embargo is bypassed. The banned products penetrate to Russia in all possible roundabout ways, they are “fished out” in the regions, mainly in Siberia, he said.
According to Rosselkhoznadzor, in the first five months of this year Kazakhstan has imported 24 000 tonnes of poultry meat from the United States, and did not ban this import, despite the spreading avian flu there. "As this product gets in some way not to Kazakhstan, but to our market, we do not want to have the hotbed of this dangerous disease", - he said.
In addition, Kazakhstan has not joined Russia’s ban on chlorine treatment of poultry, so even processed in Kazakhstan American chicken meat should not be delivered to Russia in any form, Dankvert said.
Therefore Rosselkhoznadzor experts plan to hold consultations with Kazakhstan’s colleagues to talk the situation over.
