The National Bank governor, Yerbolat Dossayev, explained at the government meeting the reason for the hike in gasoline prices in Kazakhstan, Kazpravda.kz reports with reference to the NBK press service.
"The monthly rise in prices for non-food products demonstrates the maximum value since October 2017. The growth rate of prices for clothing and footwear accelerated to 5.5% in annual terms. A hike is also observed in gasoline prices since the beginning of this year by 11.6% against the background of a decrease in domestic supply and an increase in tariffs for the transportation of petroleum products, "Yerbolat Dossayev accounted.
At the same time, according to him, in April inflation in Kazakhstan remained at the level of the previous month - 7.0% with a slowdown in food inflation and acceleration of non-food and service components.
"Food inflation slowed down from 10.7% to 9.8% amid a slowdown in the growth of prices for bakery products, meat, sugar and fruits and vegetables. Against the backdrop of renewed business activity, recovery of household incomes and growth in imports, non-food inflation accelerated from 5.6% up to 6.4% ", - Dossayev stated.
On April 27, he added, the NBK decided to keep the base rate at 9.0% per annum with a corridor of +/- 1.0 percentage points against the backdrop of continued pro-inflationary factors associated with a rise in external prices for foods, accelerated inflation in trading partner countries.
