Acting chairman of the Natural Monopolies Regulation Committee of the Ministry of National Economy, Askhat Zhapsarbay, commented at the CCS briefing on the rise in tariffs for utilities, Kazpravda.kz correspondent reports.
There are over 1.2 thousand subjects of natural monopolies in Kazakhstan, he said, each of which may have several different tariffs. All this will be economically differentiated and considered.
"In the regions, for example, tariffs for sewerage and water supply have not been raised since last year. On the contrary, in some regions they decreased. Tariffs for heating have not changed either.
The rise in the tariff is largely influenced by the rise in prices for strategic goods. Therefore, the growth of tariffs of energy producing organizations has a multiplier effect on the subjects of natural monopolies, "the speaker said.
The regions receive applications from subjects of natural monopolies to raise tariffs.
"In the regions, the subjects of natural monopolies have sent applications regarding the increase in tariffs, they are under consideration. But we are doing everything not to raise tariffs for the population. If we take last year, more than 80 percent of the subjects of natural monopolies did not raise the tariff from that level. We continue work in this direction. Tariffs for the population will not rise sharply. We will definitely control this," Zhapsarbai concluded.
