"Vaccine" against crisis

“On the threshold of the global crisis: has Kazakhstan created a vaccine against the crisis?" – This was the main issue of the regular meeting of the discussion club "Expert" acting in the fund "SamrukKazyna".

Director of the Center for Economic Analysis "Perspective" Oraz Zhandosov and director of the Center for Macroeconomic Research Olzhas Khudaibergenov opened the discussion. Deputy Chairman of the Association of Financiers of Kazakhstan Yulia Yakupbaeva, Managing Director of JSC "SamrukKazyna" Peter Howes, the Head of the sector for analysis of competitiveness and economic integration of the Center for Strategic Research and Analysis under the Presidential Administration Darmen Sadvakasov, as well as the partners on the audit from Ernst & Young and KPMG - Dmitry Mogilnitskii and Asel Khairova participated in the meeting as experts.

According to O. Zhandosov, our country is able to overcome the negative trends in the global economy: the National Fund now is in very good condition.

Director of the Center for Macroeconomic Studies O. Khudaibergenov urged not to fear a second wave of crisis. In his opinion, the European governments well prepared for it, despite high price and they will meet the challenges. In the worst case, he predicted, the oil price will stay in the range of 60-80 dollars per barrel.

However, Peter Howes pointed out that "the crisis creates opportunities for diversification of production in Kazakhstan. At the same time it is necessary to protect people from its impacts. "

Yulia Yakupbaeva in her speech drew the participants’ attention to the positive role of anti-crisis measures taken by the Government.

Summarizing the discussion, the moderator of the club Nurlan Yerimbetov invited the participants to take a vote - does Kazakhstan have a "vaccine" against the crisis? Most experts agreed that the country has effective anti-crisis tools to stem the difficulties.
