In 2020 each Kazakhstan citizen will be accessed to the central water supply network – this is a goal of the management department of the Agency for construction and housing and municipal utilities, according to its chairman Vasiliy Maslov. The present figure is 60%, the rest of the population will be serviced in the coming decade within “Drinking water” program.

Initially the “water” project was designed for another term – from 2002 to 2010, but there were reasons to extend it till 2020. According to the chairman of RK agriculture ministry’s water resources committee, Anarbek Orman around 200bn tenge was allocated for the program, which was fully disbursed. But the means were insufficient - by various estimates it takes around 60bn tenge to complete all the works.

“Drinking water” program in 2011-2020 gives priority to district centers, small populated locations’ requests will be considered last. There will be a special commission to estimate each project’s worth.

Private business is much hoped for in performing the program in the regions by winning bids for many works. A.Orman noted the present breakthrough in water supply is largely due to the involvement of small business in the program’s implementation.
